Margaret Hobbie

Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker

For the Next Chapter of Your Life

Margaret Hobbie entered real estate in 1995 after working for sixteen years as a museum curator and director.  As a residential specialist, she particularly enjoys working with clients from other states and countries, first-time buyers, historic properties, musicians, and artists.

Margaret is a Finger Lakes native and graduate of Cornell University.  She has masters degrees in folklore (Indiana University) and history museum studies (Cooperstown Graduate Programs).

Her husband, Roger Haydon, is Executive Editor at Cornell University Press.  They love to travel and in the past ten years have visited England, Ireland, Normandy, Portugal, Australia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Switzerland, and Turkey. Margaret and Roger have lived in Ithaca’s Belle Sherman neighborhood for twenty-nine years and have paid off the mortgage on a classic Craftsman-style house.  Their daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Jevon Ballard, live in nearby Brooktondale and have a baby daughter, Maggie.  Margaret and Roger's son, Tom Haydon, works for Capital One Bank in Richmond, Virginia.  Both Katherine and Tom are graduates of Ithaca High School and Cornell University.

When she is not practicing real estate or practicing the piano, Margaret enjoys concerts, movies, Pilates, and keeping her finger on the pulse of local civic life.  Currently she sits on the Ithaca City Parks Commission and also serves on the advisory boards of the History Center, the Tompkins County Public Library, and the Cornell University Chimes.  She is an active volunteer for Historic Ithaca and the Ithaca Board of Realtors.  Visit her new website at
