RealtyUSA Proudly Awards Annual College Scholarships

9/8/2008

2008 marked the 13th consecutive year that RealtyUSA has offered its scholarship program. Each year, 6 graduating high school students who have plans of attending a four year college are selected to win monetary awards up to $1000. Students from seven surrounding counties in Western NY are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The company also presents six gifts to honorable mention candidates on the merit of their application and essay submitted.

The $1,000 scholarship was awarded this year to David Machajewski, a student from Hamburg High School. The RealtyUSA general manager, Dan Symoniak and the scholarship chairperson, Louise Van Wart presented David with the monetary award, plaque and gifts at a luncheon for David and his parents, David Sr. and Yvonne Machajewski, at the Park Country Club in mid August. David will be attending Boston College this fall majoring in biology.

Congratulations go out to the other award winners: Mathew Pawlicki of Williamsville East High School and Kvita Peczonczyk of Kenmore West High School both winning Gold Awards for $250; Ashley Poli of Starpoint High School, Devon Slobodzian of Lockport High School, and Jessica Suddaby of Orchard Park High School all three winning the Silver Award for $50 each; Timothy Kopp of Maryvale High School, Kelsey Bradbury of Williamsville East, Mary Gibson of Holland Central. Matthew Klock of Grand Island High School, Abigail Oakes of Lyndonville High School and Lauren Schmeigel of Lancaster High School each achieving honorable mention.

High school seniors who are interested in applying for the scholarship for 2009 should inquire in their guidance office, look online at the RealtyUSA.com web site, or email the scholarship chairperson, Louise Van Wart at LVanwart@RealtyUSA.com. New applications should be available in early January.

Over 200 applications are received annually. Each entrant is required to write a short essay or poem on one of three or four given topics; have an 85 or higher accumulative high school average (providing transcripts); and submit letters of recommendation. The scholarship is one of many charitable events that take place annually in support of our community.
